Beating Stress, Getting Flexible, Finding Happiness with Yoga
I’ve already mentioned how it took me a long time to get started blogging, but another reason I told myself I had to start was because I was experiencing a lot of stress in my life. I wasn’t exactly sure where it was coming from. Was it because I was working two jobs? Was I just unhappy because I wasn’t doing what I love? I wasn’t sure, but I was sick and tired of constantly feeling this pit of anxiety in my chest. I knew I needed to make a change, so I thought to myself, “I’m going to try yoga!”
I had done it a few times here and there, but never consistently enough to really get into it, but this time I decided I needed to stick with it. I have always been very into health, but always found excuses as to why I didn’t need to exercise on a regular basis.
Yoga was going to be my exercise and my stress reliever.
I began about 6 months ago, and started off with a Rodney Yee Yoga for Beginners DVD of my mom’s that was laying around. It was tough, but do-able–even for someone like me who rarely exercised! It made me sweat, released the toxins built up in my body, and made me feel so great that I decided to order something more difficult.
I found Power Yoga by Rodney Yee on Amazon. I’m crazy about reading reviews, and this had great ones! So for about 3 months, I have been doing my Power Yoga 3-4 times/week and have already noticed a change in my attitude, stress level, and definitely my strength! Rodney just has this wonderful calming voice that makes the experience even more enjoyable. I did try two other videos by other instructors and just couldn’t get into it. Rodney (we’re on a first name basis now) is amazing!
I just recently convinced Zach (my boyfriend) to do it with me, and he couldn’t believe how flexible I’ve become in these few short months. The benefit that yoga has had on my life already is amazing. I totally credit it partially with helping me to find the courage to start blogging too. Even though I’ve only just begun my yoga journey, the benefits are incredible!
So for anyone out there who has been thinking about trying yoga, or is experiencing increased stress or anxiety, I recommend it 100%!
